Flora
Calabria posesses two ecosystems: coasts and mountains.Onion-, cauliflower-, zucchini-, tomato-, bean-, salad-, pepper-, strawberry-, aubergine- , and flowerpantations can be observed in the area between Parghelia and Capo Vaticano.
In the mountains you will find oaks and the so called sempreverde (Evergreen), like for example sclerofilla. This area is used for the cultivation of grain, vegetables and animal food.
In the country there are lots of vineyards and olive groves.
Cypresses, italian stone pine trees, peperoncini, orange- and lemontrees, cranesbills, bougainvilleas, hibiscus and lots of other beautiful plants and flowers can be found in this region.
Fauna
Foxes, Owls, red deers, and cardinals live in these two different areas. The native sparrow feels really safe on the coast of Capo Vaticano.
Generally the Fauna in Calabria is rather depauperate. Wild boars and red deers can be mainly observed in national parks.
In the wild you can see sheep or goats, and
in the plateau lots of different sorts of birds. Donkeys are often used as pack animals. People live more on fishing than on cattle breeding.
