Further on south we come to Reggio Calabria. Since summer 2000 the Piazza indipendenza has opened onto the beack promenade designed by city architect Pier Luigi Nervi. With its glorious rubber trees, magnolias and tall palms trees it was once described as the prettiest kilometre in the whole of Italy by the author Gabriele D'Annunzio.
