Day 1: Arrival
Arrival at the airport  Lamezia Terme and  transfer to your booked accommodation. There dinner and overnight stay.
                                                                             

Hiking Tour Capo Vaticano - Calabria in Southern Italy

Day 2: The old Mill
Our hike today will take us along beautiful paths and vineyards down in the valley of a river to an old mill. Further we will cross fields with amazing views on the light blue sea and finally we will reach on old tower from the Saracen-Invasion called “Torre Marrana”. We traverse then two little pictorial villages and some farms before having a snack, not far from our hotel. In the early afternoon our hike will finish and you will have enough tim to enjoy the sun in the pool-area or on the beach.
In the evening you can explore the “Capo Vaticano”, near the hotel: this rock in the midst of the sea with its lush vegetation and photo motives of the first class is the most famous viewpoint of the whole area!
- walk: 3-3 ½ hours --> uphill: ca. 60H--> downhill: ca. 300 H- -> distance: 10km
- transfer time: 10-15 minutes in the morning

 

Day 3: The Monte Poro
Not far from Capo Vaticano begins our hike on small asphalt roads to the plateau of the Monte Poro. Here the production of large parts of the local cheese specialities such as sheep´s milk cheese, Ricotta and Mozzarella.  As hiking up we will have a breathtaking view of Capo Vaticano, the Calabrian Coast and even Sicily.  Arrived on the top we can have a lunch at a typical restaurant. Among others we can taste there the local products. After the lunch break we are heading off to the church  „Madonna del Carmine“. From there we will take a beautiful path  between cactus plants, chestnut and olive trees down to the coastal town Joppolo. In the evening we take the train or minibus back to our hotel.

Day 4: Reggio Calabria - Art, Culture & time to relax
Today you expect a slightly different day by your own:  With the train you will arrive at Reggio Calabria, the city of many different faces. The birthplace of Versace has much to offer! You can do some sightseeing, visit the archaeological museum with the 2 bronze statues, the cathedral and taste the delicious ice-cream while walking on the famous beach promenade Lungomare Matteotti designed by Pier Luigi Nervi with its glorious rubber trees, magnolias and tall palm trees. Of course this is also a real opportunity for shopping!

Day 5: The sea of Zungri
After yesterday's rest day is it today once again walk properly and extensively on the wonderfully unspoiled nature trails. We will reach the first highlight of the day already in the morning: the old abandoned caves of Zungri which delivers inside into a real fare style of life. A beautiful trail leads us along an old cistern from the Roman period up to the little sea of Zungri, the end of our today’s walk.

Day 6: Palmi & Monte S. Elia
Today we are in the coastal town of Palmi. A short detour to the ethnographic museum gives us a good insight into traditional customs of the Calabrese: from magic-faith religious traditions to carpet weaving and the lives of the herdsmen. The following panoramic hike along the steep sloping to the sea flank of Mount S. Elia is a worthy conclusion of our migrant week: By clear sight we will have a magnificent view of the Costa Viola, the Aeolian Islands and the Strait of Messina. Near the picnic area, where we have an opportunity to have lunch, there is also some cork oak.

Day 7: Free-time
Today you can do everything you like since it is your own responsibility. You can either go to the beach or drive to Tropea for getting some typical souvenirs and to visit this famous medieval town with its narrow alleys, its little cathedral and the “Santa Maria dell’Isola” – the town’s landmark.

Day 8: Departure day - Arrivederci!
After the last Italian breakfast you will have your transfer to the airport Lamezia Terme.
